Florida Workers Compensation Conference

In Insurance Recruiting on August 24, 2010 at 4:30 pm

One word can describe this conference for us…. exhausted! We made our fourth straight appearance at the Florida Workers Compensation Conference and once again have to say, well done.

Robin Bland, Ben Volkmer and Jillanna Pomelow joined me for some work, food, spirits (sometime too many spirits) in Orlando and we again made many new friends and had a chance to see 3000 of our other friends in the WC industry.

We always look forward to this convention as it is a great time for all of us but also a huge driver of business for our firm. We are signed up for next years convention and cannot wait to see everyone again.

See you in Vegas in a few months for the National Convention.

Insurance Industry getting back in time for Summer!

In Insurance Recruiting on June 22, 2010 at 12:38 pm

As reported in late April from the RIMS conference, I was beginning to feel like the industry was beginning to turn with more hiring taking place. Well I am happy to report that has not slowed down. Just as the summer is on a record heat pace here in Texas, the industry is moving and shaking.

We at our companies, are as busy as we have been since early 2009. With over 100 current openings, 85 of those direct hire opportunities, we  do not see this slowing down until later in the year when holiday season approaches. The majority of our positions are in the area of sales and underwriting, a common indicator that carriers and mga’s are beginning to try to gain back market share or take advantage of the current marketplace. Other good signs are that our contract business is also continuing to rise mainly based on claims activities, part of that from storms but the others from companies growing based on more activity in the underwriting side of the business. We also are seeing carriers beginning to turn their focus to new areas or niches, such as Environmental, Technology and even moving into different account sizes that they have not normally been involved in.

All signs are that the market is slowly turning back for insurance, we will have to see if the companies can survive what seems to be a busy hurricane season but we are seeing movement and really feel like over the next 12 months this market will only get stronger and stronger. So if you wondering what might be out in the market or felt like now is not a good time to look, you might want to investigate the companies websites, job boards or talk to a few recruiters and you might be surprised what is happening in our great industry.

RIMS 2010 : People are on the move

In Insurance Recruiting, Uncategorized on April 29, 2010 at 10:18 pm

After returning from the 2010 RIMS Conference in Boston, at 12:45 in the morning my first thoughts were….

1. I am exhausted, working the booth and all those parties will wear an old man out.

2. I feel really good about our firm, what we do and our growth in 2010.

3. I feel even better that the insurance industry/cost containment/managed care ,  they are all looking really good at this point. We really see some growth and companies looking for that top-notch talent.

With the majority of the companies reporting much better results after the 1st quarter of 2010, some for obvious reasons (it could not have gone much worse at the end of 2009), others due to pure organic growth. As a recruiter that is music to our ears. I forsee this little spurt continuing to gain steam and by the end of 2010, beginning of 2011 that the our mega industry we work in will be flying high and those that are in the game to attract the “best of the best” will begin to flourish.

This guys bottom line impression is that things are ready to bust and all of us as recruiters, consultants etc. need to take advantage. Put on your hard hats and get to work, super companies are looking for super stars, now the question is…. Are you in or are you out???
